Thinking about getting an anal training kit? Good choice. Now comes the tricky part: finding one you'll actually enjoy using.
Some sets have three plugs, others have five. Some increase gradually in diameter, while others make much bigger jumps. And those Small, Medium and Large labels? They don't always tell you much.
The trick is to start with the smallest toy, compare the actual measurements, and check the shape, material and base before buying.
Here's what to look for.
Start With the Smallest Toy
It's tempting to look at the biggest plug in the set first. After all, that's the one you might be excited to try someday.
But the smallest toy deserves your attention first.
Check its widest diameter, insertable length and shape. Does it suit your current experience, or does it already look more demanding than you'd like?
If the starting size isn't right for you, having several larger toys in the box won't make the kit a better purchase.
Not sure which measurements matter? Our Butt Plug Size Guide breaks them down.
Compare the Actual Size Increments
A graduated butt plug set contains plugs arranged in increasing sizes. Simple enough.
But graduated doesn't mean every increase is the same, or that there's a universally suitable amount to move up by.
Let's compare two real sets from our collection.
Black Curved Silicone Anchor Butt Plug Training Set
Our Black Curved Silicone Anchor Butt Plug Training Set offers three curved silicone plugs with rounded bodies, narrower necks and anchor-style bases.
Their widest diameters are:
- Small: 24 mm (0.94 in)
- Medium: 28 mm (1.10 in)
- Large: 36 mm (1.42 in)
That's a 4 mm (0.16 in) increase followed by an 8 mm (0.31 in) increase.
The neck diameters change too, from 14 mm (0.55 in) to 16 mm (0.63 in) and 21 mm (0.83 in).
So even within one set, you're comparing more than diameter alone.
Glow in the Dark Silicone Butt Plug Set
Now take our Glow in the Dark Silicone Butt Plug Set.
This three-piece silicone set has tapered bodies and suction cup bases, with widest diameters of:
- Small: 25 mm (0.98 in)
- Medium: 35 mm (1.38 in)
- Large: 45 mm (1.77 in)
Each increase is 10 mm (0.39 in).
The lengths also change from 89 mm (3.50 in) to 122 mm (4.80 in) and 158 mm (6.22 in).
See the difference?
Both sets start at a similar diameter, but the remaining sizes, shapes and proportions are quite different.
Neither set is automatically the better choice. What matters is whether its particular selection of toys appeals to you.
And remember, five pieces don't necessarily mean smaller size increments than three. Always check the numbers.
Look Beyond Diameter: Shape, Material and Base
Two plugs with the same widest diameter can still feel surprisingly different.
Shape: A rounded bulb creates a different sensation from a longer tapered design. Curves, neck thickness and insertable length matter too.
Material and firmness: Both sets above use silicone, but that doesn't mean every silicone toy feels equally soft or flexible. Check the individual product details rather than assuming.
Base design: Look for a secure, properly flared base or suitable external stop on every toy intended for anal insertion. An anchor-style base and a suction cup base also offer different designs to consider.
If you prefer familiar shapes in different sizes, a matching set may appeal to you. If you're curious about variety, you might prefer comparing individual toys with different designs.
Do You Actually Need a Full Set?
Here's something worth admitting: sometimes one good plug is all you need.
Maybe you already own a favourite and just want something a little different. Or perhaps only one size in a particular set catches your eye.
Our Black Curved Silicone Anchor Butt Plug Training Set, for example, offers individual sizes as well as a full-set option.
There's no point paying for five toys if you're only excited about one of them.
A kit gives you multiple choices. A single plug lets you be more selective. Neither is automatically the smarter purchase.
